2023 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
Our second wine from the Howell Mountain AVA of Napa Valley. Howell Mountain: the hype is real. The elevation, combined with iron-rich red clay soils, make for small berries, intense flavors and robust, powerful wines.
Add David Abreu's epic Las Posadas vineyard to the equation and you have a no-doubter. Abreu, the farming legend who helped establish the vineyards at Araujo, Colgin, Spottswoode, Bryant, Harlan and Screaming Eagle to name a few, chose this site more than 20 years ago to become his highest elevation Napa Valley vineyard.
Full notes from Lisa Perrotti-Brown, March 2026
The 2023 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Scents of crème de cassis, plum preserves, and dark chocolate jump from the glass, followed by fragrant suggestions of sandalwood, cardamom, and peppermint. The full-bodied palate is densely packed with bold black fruit and savory/earthy flavors, supported by firm, wonderfully ripe tannins and a refreshing line, finishing with epic length. The fruit for this wine comes from Abreu's Las Posadas, but this will be the last year this is made by Zeitgeist because of Abreu's contract with Trinchero

And from Jeb Dunnuck, February 2026
Coming from the Las Posadas Vineyard on Howell Mountain and aged 22 months in 75% new French oak, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain delivers savory aromatics of red and black fruits, dried herbs, spicy oak, Asian spice, and lead pencil. It's medium to full-bodied, with a layered, complex mouthfeel, ripe yet still classic Mountain tannins, and a great finish. Hide bottles for 3-4 years and enjoy over the following decade-plus. Drink 2028-2040.
